Decorative Lacing

Lacing is probably the most time-consuming and labour intensive aspect of canoe making. Several hundred feet of spruce roots are dug up, peeled & split and used to bind the bark together, attach gunwales and secure thwarts. In addition to its purely functional purpose, intricate bindings were often used on canoe ends for decoration and as a means of identification.

Decorative lacing is available as an option upon request.
